Daniil Margulis is a double bass player active as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. He has appeared in concerts across the world, from North America to Australia, and in 2025 performed in more than 80 engagements. Daniil is also a dedicated teacher, and his students have participated in international masterclasses.

Biography

Daniil Margulis is a Turkish double bassist and joint First Prize winner of the 2nd International Double Bass Competition of Belgium. He also earned Second Prize at the 2025 Huddersfield “Mrs Sunderland Festival” Young Soloist of the Year Competition. Daniil made his concerto debut with the Stringendo Ensemble under the baton of Pascale Van Os at Alden Biesen Castle, Belgium. As a soloist, he has performed on renowned stages such as the Wigmore Hall, Menuhin Hall and Grand Manège in Namur. He received critical acclaim for his performances of Bottesini’s Grand Duo Concertante at the Mozartfest Würzburg and Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele.

An active chamber musician, he has been featured on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune and appears on Robert Simpson – Chamber Music, Volume One, released by Toccata Classics. Daniil has collaborated with numerous chamber groups including Sacconi Quartet, Echea Quartet and Regency Quartet. He was the featured guest artist at the opening night concert of the 20th International Gümüşlük Music Festival where he performed alongside pianist Gülsin Onay and the Athenaeum String Quartet.

Daniil has performed as Section Principal Double Bass with the Orchestra of Opera North and Welsh National Opera and has worked with several major UK orchestras including Royal Northern Sinfonia, English National Opera as well as his ongoing trial for BBC Symphony Orchestra Co-Principal Double Bass. His performances have taken him to countries such as the UK, Turkey, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Germany, Montenegro, Bosnia and the United States.

Following his studies at the Yehudi Menuhin School on a full scholarship, Daniil is currently pursuing his Master of Performance degree with Caroline Emery at the Royal College of Music, London. He is generously supported by Talent Unlimited, the Eczacıbaşı Music Scholarship, the Loan Fund for Musical Instruments, and anonymous donors.

In addition to his performing career, Daniil has previously worked as a Visiting Music Teacher at Westminster School and currently holds the roles of Orchestra Coach and Deputy Professor at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music.
